Nokia 808 PureView: Has Nokia lost the war before it began?
Seriously Nokia, what got into your minds? People who look for a good camera in their phones and are willing to spend close to 30K for it, also look for something more than the camera – THE PHONE!!!
According to me, Nokia 808 PureView is a failure of a phone! I agree with the technology and possibly the best camera on a phone till date. But what about the rest of the spec sheet?
Take a look:
| Weight | 169 g |
| Screen Size | 360 x 640 pixels, 4.0 inches |
Whaaat!!?? Seriously??
170 gms and a 4″ screen with a measly resolution of 360 X 640 pixels? In the era of 720p pseudo HD screens?
It’s unbelievable, it’s stupid and it’s just not up to the mark! Pull up your socks Nokia, put your thinking caps on…
If I need a camera with a basic phone, which is what a pureview is minus it’s camera, probably I’d go buy a MUCH better Phone AND a MUCH better Camera and together they wouldn’t cost me as much as your phone. You want examples.. How about this?
Canon IXUS 230 HS – Rs. 12775 PLUS HTC One V – Rs. 17500
Total Cost: Rs. 30275
Speculated price of 808 PureView – Rs. 32000
There you go… Need more proof? I have a camera with optical zoom which, I speculate, can take better pictures than your phone. And I also have a phone which is much much (repeat for good measure) better specs and a better OS! And guess what, I also have a secondary camera, just in case, on my phone, which is quite capable by itself. And that’s not all.. I also have the flexibility of having the other safe, in case something happens with one of my devices, like the time you dropped your camera while taking a picture… Remember? You are not entirely out of options now!
Nokia… This is your epic fail according to me. You have lost the war before it began! Period.

Just brought 808, though the build quality is not as good as my previous n8 but the phone itself, camera and sound is awesome.
About the price : most good smartphones will set you back by same amount or more so why not a 808
Awesome! Congratulations on your new purchase. About “most smartphones’, they all have different specifications!!
The optical zoom of the camera might be nice but: Sensor size: 1/2.3″, the pureview has 1/1.2″, the Nikon 1 (a good camera) 1/1″. For good quality a big sensor is essential. So the compact camera does not take better pictures but the 808 does!
But anyway. have fun carrying arround the two, ridiculous. 169g is nothing, i don’t care. i would like it to be slimer, but that’s not possible with that camera. Higher res screen would also be nice, but it is not sooo important, watching a movie on such a small device sucks anyway. Also only few need millions of apps. The only thing is the browser, which might not be so good, but still plenty for everyday use. And don’t start with quad core blabla, hardly anybody needs that.
The camera I’ve mentioned is just an example Peter, and I am sure you can find cameras that take better pictures then the PureView in similar price range

As I’ve said repeatedly, these are my opinions and frankly just like you don’t care about the 170gm weight of the phone, I don’t care about carrying two devices
Coming to the Quad core blah blah, well.. I seriously think you need to take a look around. Your statement mirrors a very famous rumored comment – “640K ought to be enough for anybody.”
Luckily, not everyone agrees with you on your points above. My needs, for example, are as follows:
1. A phone that fits reasonably in the hand for one-handed handling and specifically easy texting.
2. A phone with a large memory and a slot for micro sd, to hold my entire music collection as well as pics from the camera.
3. A phone that takes top quality pictures and vids.
More to the point, I want a phone to handle these things because I DO NOT want to carry around a separate camera, a separate mp3 player AND a phone. Very few besides yourself have this preference, actually…
The 808 does 1 and 2 good as any, and 3 waaaaay better than any other. The lack of apps for Belle is of little concern – the ones I really need are there, and the rest are on my tablet, where they’re better off anyway…
The low resolution screen is something I’ll live with; sure, I’d like a 720 x 1280 screen as well, but it’s not really necessary, seeing as how – again – I have a tablet for those needs.
“like the time you dropped your camera while taking a picture… Remember?”
Yes, I do. I’ve dropped my Nokia countless times, and it’s shrugged it off time and again. Yay for Finish quality!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Not to say, I disagree with your points, but paying for something like this, just so that I don’t have to carry two different items is not what I’d do! Having different devices also has an upside as I’ve already mentioned.
But then again, you also have a tablet, so in any case you are going to carry multiple devices, aren’t you?
Coming to your last point, yes Nokias are strong and I can vouch for that as well as you, but HTCs are not finicky either! It’s inside an aluminium chassis
I have nothing against the technology and I can very well understand that the 808 pureview is so 2012, maybe even 2013. But the phone attached to it, sorry to say, is still stuck in 2005!
